Playing with the Google Chrome OS under VMware Fusion.

It's actually a pretty interesting idea, building your entire OS as a web browser. I thought of trying something like this about a year ago, do everything you would normally do, but with web Apps. I didn't have much success with the idea, but I also was not that committed. Plus the internet can be slow and sporadic at times so basing an entire OS around this strategy seems risky. Apple tried it with the iPhone and no one bought it...now there's over 100,000 apps. I think that says something about dedicated applications.

With that said, I think Google's concept for the Chome OS could really pay off, plus if it does then when you program anything it will truly be cross platform, for the first time ever. So I hope this effort make web applications a lot more robust, but It might be a little too ahead of it's time. Or maybe it's not something people will ever get used to...time will tell.

I just listed a ton of my old video game systems on Craigslist. Selling is not near as fun as buying.

Adobe, I think I'm done with you.

For the past month or so I've been seriously considering upgrading my copy of Adobe CS3 to CS4. There haven't been that many changes, but I figured it would be worth it since you can only upgrade a version or two before Adobe cuts you off. Once Snow Leopard was released I started to seriously consider the upgrade since it's the only "Officially Supported" version but then I thought practically about the issue. If I purchase CS4 from Adobe I'm only allowed to use it on one machine. You can have it installed on several, but if I want to use CS4 on my laptop and then I want to use it on my desktop I have to de-authorize my laptop and then authorize my desktop. It really starts to become a hassle if you forgot to de-authorize your desktop and your on the road and need to use Photoshop.

Even though I have the "Design Premium" version of CS3 I really only use 2 applications, Photoshop and Illustrator. I use Coda instead of Dreamweaver, and Motion instead of After Effects, and Final Cut instead of Premiere. I don't use Acrobat or InDesign since I'm not in the print industry and I don't use Flash because it's not web standard.

So how to replace Photoshop Illustrator? I'm going to try doing it using Pixelmator and VectorDesigner. Both are award winning applications built on a modern architecture that take advantage of the Mac OS and the features it has to offer. I tried Pixelmator before when I was faced with upgrading to CS3, but it didn't have many of the features that I rely on from day to day. Luckily with version 1.5 of Pixelmator they've added a lot of the features I was missing. Sure it doesn't have everything that Photoshop has to offer, but I'm sure I can live without a few conveniences while I think of all the money I saved.
